There is a long history of attempts at integration in the NHS. What we have learnt is that integration happens around needs, and that means starting with data and identifying a unifying ambition to meet needs; it has to reduce handovers and fragmentation, providing more continuity, which means INTs do more than coordinate; and it is more than clinical acuity, its the interplay between clinical need and social /environmental context (tough lives) where the NHS is one player in the system of support.
